The RAVE emergency alert system provides state employees with real-time communications about emergencies and other situations that impact their department’s operations. State of Wisconsin agencies and law enforcement use RAVE solely to send mass electronic notifications to employees wherever they are to help them take immediate action to remain safe during emergencies, such as:
- Building evacuations
- Active shooter
- Weather emergencies
- Building closures due to weather, fire, smoke, etc.
State employee work email and telephone devices are pre-registered to receive RAVE alerts. In addition, employees may choose to receive RAVE alerts on their personally-owned electronic devices:
-
Text Messages: Employees may receive RAVE text messages on their personal cellular phones. Employees are responsible for any SMS charges imposed by their cellular provider.
-
Email: Employees may receive RAVE email messages at their personal email address.
-
Telephone: Employees may receive RAVE recorded messages on their home or cellular phones.
Registration is Free and Simple
State employees are urged to register personal devices to receive text, personal email and personal telephone messages in addition to their state email account and telephone line. You may manage your personal contact information in RAVE as follows:
-
Use STAR ESS Personal Contact Information. RAVE automatically includes any personal telephone numbers and email addresses you have entered in STAR Employee Self Service (ESS). It is recommended you confirm the personal contact information you have entered in ESS; no additional action is needed.
-
Directly Enter Personal Information in RAVE. Employees who choose to maintain limited or no personal contact information in ESS may add, test, edit or delete personal contact information directly in RAVE at getrave.com. When you register directly in RAVE, you may choose to receive a test message from the system confirming that your information is properly entered into the system.
-
Opt-Out of RAVE Personal Contact Information. Employees who do not wish to receive RAVE notifications on personal devices may opt-out of RAVE by following instructions in STAR ESS. Employees who do not wish to have personal contact information maintained in RAVE understand that they will not receive notifications on personal devices in the event of an emergency.
Please remember that RAVE will only be used to send safety or emergency information under the authority of agency senior leadership or law enforcement. It will never be used for non-emergency communication such as advertising or general announcements (e.g., bake sales).
Depending on your cellular carrier, your RAVE text alerts will arrive from short code number 226787, 67283, 78015, 81437 or 22911. Upon receiving alerts, you may choose to store the number in your cell phone and label it “RAVE Emergency Alert” to more easily identify the nature of future messages.
RAVE will never be used to collect, store or use personally-identifiable information such as date of birth, Social Security number or driver’s license number. Only your contact information is kept in the system and you manage your personal telephone numbers and email address. Finally, RAVE is offered on a best-effort basis and the State of Wisconsin cannot guarantee that all messages will be delivered due to cellular technology or coverage issues.
For questions about RAVE, contact your agency Continuity of Operations officer or Human Resources department.
